Shunned by ex-jw's
by Joey Jo-Jo inthere seems to be a double standard among ex-jw's who believe and practice christianity.. i have lost 3 subscribers from my youtube channel all because of speaking my mind, it was not invasive or rude, but my last two videos appeared to have offended them.. so what happened?
as an atheist i raised some issues regarding the mind set of christianity that it borrows from jw's, in other words i was showing christian ex-jw's that they are behaving just like jw's.
the double standard is simple to grasp:.

There seems to be a double standard among ex-jw's who believe and practice Christianity.
I have lost 3 subscribers from my youtube channel all because of speaking my mind, it was not invasive or rude, but my last two videos appeared to have offended them.
So what happened? As an atheist I raised some issues regarding the mind set of christianity that it borrows from JW's, in other words I was showing Christian ex-jw's that they are behaving just like jw's.
The double standard is simple to grasp:
What allowed a person to break free from the Jehovah’s Witness cult? The core answer is open minded, the opposite would be closed minded not wanting to hear the opinion of others.
Are ex-jw Christian's closed minded? Not all Christians but for some reason ex-jw's are closed mind.
So I’ll explain the double standard, they don't like how JW's treat ex-members yet they treat non-Christian members in the same manner, they remove your comments, block you and unsubscribe, all because you have a difference in opinion. The very mind set they use as JW's is the very same as a Christian.
A hamster in a wheel.

What happens when you argue with JW's?
by Terry ini can't claim 100% recall, certainly.
jw: "they are imperfect.
jw: "i don't know of any other place to go that has something better.".

In the end... really in any situation, just with an alcoholic, drug addict or a smoker we can only show them the door, pushing then into the door is illegal, allowing the conversation to get heated is counterproductive and offending them is really not portraying the solution.
Even with the criticism Hassan has had by other psychologists I prefer his method, but it's difficult considering team work is require and it's all about timing. It's like walking into a land mine, the more experience we have the easier we can tread (speak) without blowing ourselves (allowing them to think without the chain around their brain).
JW's use coercive persuasion, it's buying yourself into a state of mind that asked you to lock the door and throw the key away, your safe in my temple, don't walk out, don't speak to others... and the core problem is that they have a preconceive notion of their deaths, that is in a paradise earth, let god do the worrying (no need for a brain).
What you speak of Terry is very similar to a book that a cognitive psychologists wrote, When Prophecy Fails by Leon Festinger, who also coined the term cognitive dissonance and wrote a book about that.

Terry,
There are other factors that needs to be considered, the person who you spoke to does not simple live his life in this conversation. The conversation ends, and one or more can take place:
Illogical reasoning
Influenced by others
Effected by the environment ( environment in the psychological sense meaning that the place this person his and the people he is interacting with forms part of the environment, and this environment changes the way this person thinks because it effects our biology.
A pre ordained idea about you or death.
These are just some of many explanations concluded through scientific evidence, but as well it's important to understand human nature.
In a nutshell - PEOPLE SEEK CONSISTENCIES AND AVOIDED INCONSISTENCIES -
Our brains has this inbuild function that does not want conflicting ideas, it does not care who is right or wrong, it just wants avoids dissonance as much as possible so that we can live longer, negativity during the course of time becomes more and more blurred that when we recall a bad memory it never seems as bitter as it was. (unless you have PTSD).
Look back to the history of man kind to the amount of stupidity that took place for one to feel wanted and accepted by others, for dead gods and dead kings and dead languages and dead cultures.

He uses two sources from the same author, both books are very similar so they are not necessarily two sources.
I wish more people would read into more qualified literature than Hassan's, his new book is a joke and talk about palgiarism.and unwarranted claims.
steve2: It's educational, it's always boring lol

This is just terrible, I never knew him but enjoyed reading his posts, the depression and anxiety most probably became too unbearable that he escaped, it didn't had to end like this. I detest this cult

Christ alone wrote The thing with people and their blame of God in acting too slow is...If He doesn't respond in the manner and length that we deem is appropriate, then He is either slow, cruel, or doesn't exist.
Humanism is like this. It's all about self. There is nothing greater than self. And self dictates everything. There is no greater power outside of ourself, and many (though not all) come to this conclusion because their concept of God did not respond in the way and speed that they thought He would. So He must not exist. I see it over and over again. Yes, I acknowledge that there are those that use science to support their non belief in God. But for many people science was not the reason they stopped believing, but it was a way to explain why they already didn't believe. I'm not saying that is everyone, but I have met many people that are this way.
You happen to be Alun by any chance?
As for your comments, it was not science that lead me to atheism but the bible, psychology and philosophy. 1 the bible has contradictions 2 the bible does not make any sense (e.g. read jude) 3 god of the old testament is a genocidal maniac 4 philosophy disproves of what many claim to be godly attributes, 5 psychology proves my point as the reason why many had and continue to believe in deities.

Sam Harris - On the Freedom to Offend an Imaginary God
by cofty inimo an excellent blog post by sam harris..... we are free to burn the quran or any other book, and to criticize muhammad or any other human being.
let no one forget it.. most secular liberals think that all religions are the same, and they consider any suggestion to the contrary a sign of bigotry.
somehow, this article of faith survives daily disconfirmation.

tec wrote When people start looking at every Muslim as an extremist and a terrorist (or even as a potential extremist or terrorist or even as people who approve of extremists and terrorism), then that is a problem. That leads to hate and fear of an entire group of people for the actions of some (that the others speak against) That leads to propoganda, which we have plenty of, and that in turn leads to even more suspicion.
Let me put it to you this, if I believe in a book that promotes hate and acts of terrorism, yet my view of the book is more watered down and I pick and choose what to believe from this book to be more social aceptable. Does this make me a deliver of the book or not? and if not does that not mean that the source should be judged and not the person of that source?

King Solomon wrote People forget that the battles between islamists and Xians had been going on for hundreds of years BEFORE our Founding Fathers established freedom of religion in America; hence, they made a strong statement against extremist's intolerance of other's religions, as well. Unfortunately, that message is lost/ignored by many nowadays.
Actually those wars were between christian nations and arabs, there is no historical evidence for islam.
